Bay Island Park Concrete Seawall
Summary: Erickson Consulting Engineers, Inc., (ECE) was commissioned by Sarasota County to provide civil and coastal engineering services for the design, engineering, permitting, and construction management services for the removal and replacement of a 1,000 ft section of reinforced concrete seawall (constructed pre-1970) at Bay Island Park, along the Siesta Drive Bridge Causeway. The Siesta Drive Bridge serves as the key evacuation route from Siesta Key to Sarasota. In addition to potential future failure of the wall from spalling and corrosion of existing tie-backs, a 135 ft section was experiencing misalignment of the top elevation of the wall compared to adjacent seawalls, posing a safety hazard.
Key Project Elements:
The Siesta Drive Bridge causeway site is the key evacuation connector for Siesta Key to Sarasota. Design challenges included maintaining existing site elevations and existing site aesthetics while increasing wall elevations for proper site protection from storm surge.

- Existing Conditions Investigation Report with Recommended Action
- Structural Design of 1,000 Linear ft of Concrete Seawall with Tie-Back System
- Storm Survey Elevation Analysis
- Topographic & Hydrographic Surveys
- Core Borings & Geotechnical Analysis
- Coastal Vegetation Conservation Plans
- Reconnection of Existing Stormwater pipeline Through the Seawall
- Construction Inspection and Oversight
